It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Jonathan began by asking if any of us have ever wondered, as he has, why God asks us — indeed commands us — to worship Him.
Why does God require our worship? Has he some kind of complex, some security issues, some neediness which only our worship can satisfy? I mean by this that all enjoyment overflows into praise. Lovers praise their partners. Readers praise their favourite poet. Mountain climbers praise their favourite mountain. Supporters praise their team.
A Life of Praise
People praise the weather, wine, food, actors, rare stamps. I think we delight to praise what we enjoy because the praise not merely expresses but completes the enjoyment; it is its appointed consummation. It is not out of compliment that lovers keep on telling one another how beautiful they are; the delight is incomplete till it is expressed.
It is frustrating to have discovered a new author and not to be able to tell anyone how good he is; to come suddenly, at the turn of the road, upon some mountain valley of unexpected grandeur and then to have to keep silent because the people with you care for it no more than for a tin can in the ditch; to hear a good joke and find no one to share it with. Fully to enjoy is to glorify. In commanding us to glorify Him, God is inviting us to enjoy Him. This means that if we love God and if God wants us to be happy, then He must command us to do what will make is infinitely and eternally joyful, namely to see, savour and say his praises!
Because our joy in God is not merely expressed in praising Him, but made complete in praising Him….. When the Jewish people in Old Testament times sang Psalm , Jonathan told us, they were heading towards a physical place — Jerusalem, and in particular the Temple at Jerusalem, which was the centre of their world, a place where God was present in a very particular way. They worshipped when they saw the gates of Jerusalem in the distance. They entered the Temple praising. It is their worship which brings them into the Presence.

Praise and Worship - Why Should We do it? God alone is worthy of our devotion, praise and worship. He is God, our Creator, and we are commanded to praise and worship Him. Psalm says, "Worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness; tremble before him, all the earth.
Tozer said, "Without worship, we go about miserable. He has done so many things to show us that He loves us and doesn't want us to be miserable.

A life of praise and worship fills our deepest needs, and amazingly, it also brings great joy to God. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing. Praise and Worship - How Do We do it?
God tells us how to praise and worship him in His Word. John says, "Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. No one comes to the Father except through me. The best way that we can praise and worship God is with our every thought and action. Romans states, "Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God -- this is your spiritual act of worship.
Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is -- his good, pleasing and perfect will.
